Reviews and Submitting Content

A few weeks ago we added new functionality to Caution Water - the ability for you all to add reviews. Given the number of visitors we have (not that many!), the 4 or so reviews we've had added since we think is pretty good.

We had several reasons for adding this functionality - first of all, we wanted to give people an easy way to contribute to Caution Water without having to email us to write an article, or without having to register on the forums.

Secondly, we wanted to be able to expand the content and knowledge we have within this site outside the bounds of our knowledge - we can write all different articles about sailing, but we don't have the ability or time to sail all the boats there are out there (and don't have many of them available to us). We can write reviews on boats we've sailed, but there are so many boats out there that we can't. That doesn't mean to say other people out there can't!

Third, different people enjoy different boats, so it's a good idea to get a good range of reviews, and you don't find these kind of reviews in many places other than talking to people in a boat park.

We're after all and any kind of review; we will value anything you submit, even if it's just a couple of lines about what you think of the boat and why someone should sail it.

On the other hand, if you want to write a lot, we have Rob who sails 420's, who added a fantastic review on the 420. I made some comments about the setup of our club 420 which makes it an awkward boat to sail, and he posted a very detailed review on the boat, how to fix these niggles, how to sail it best in light winds, strong winds, upwind, downwind, the boat makers, and so on and so forth:

On the reach the boat is fast, especially when sailed flat, the bow comes well out and it is possible to see behind the centerboard, weight is best kept over the spinnaker blocks by the crew. Kicking strap is used to depower the main mostly and the pole can be raised to get more height. (please note getting too far back slows the boat considerably).

Now we know not every review can be like this, and we don't want every review like this - we want a good range of reviews - but if anyone else wants to do a detailed review like this, please do! If you think it would be better off as a proper article, don't worry that we don't have a category for specific boat tips or articles right now - we're ready to make one, just as soon as someone sends us one.

London Boat Show

The London Boat show is almost on us, don't forget your tickets!

Don't forget, the London Boat Show starts next weekend (9th January) and runs until the following weekend. It's at the Exel Arena in the Docklands area of London.

We went last year and will be there again this year (look our for the Caution Water merchandise we'll no doubt be wearing, look out for someone in a capsizing catamaran hoolie t-shirt), and would thoroughly recommend it. It's the biggest show on the calendar, and alongside the latest developments in dinghy sailing, there's plenty of yachts, power boats and even games you can join in.

It's pretty easy to get to by car, and you don't have to drive through the centre of London. It's mostly all undercover, apart from the racing out the back on the water.

Happy Christmas!

Happy Christmas to everyone from Caution Water.

And don't forget, all that food and drink you eat over Christmas could come in handy if you're a lightweight Laser sailor looking to upgrade to a full rig, but if you're already full size, you don't want to end up weighing too much that you can't trapeze any more!
